Utah Sierra Club Fall Harvest Party

We’re having a great time at the Utah Chapter Sierra Club Fall Harvest Party! Public lands and clean air are critical to all Utahns, regardless of where you live in our beautiful state. The air we breathe and the land we love should never be partisan issues.

I am proud to be endorsed by the Utah Sierra Club and look forward to continued collaboration. Thanks for an amazing event!#FruitsofActivism

One month countdown!

Only one month until Election Day! I want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has worked hard to make our campaign succeed. In the last four weeks, I am committed to bringing this victory home -- but it will take all of us to do it. Today we are asking supporters to take one (or all!) of the following actions:

- CONFIRM your voter registration at vote.utah.gov

- RECRUIT five friends to commit to vote, either when ballots drop next week, or on November 6th

- DONATE to help keep our campaign running! https://secure.actblue.com/donate/4for44

- VOLUNTEER to knock doors, make phone calls, or be part of our Election Day team

All of these steps and more can be taken at our website, voteandrewstoddard.com. These next few weeks are critical, and if I'm elected, I promise to work hard for you every single day that I'm a member of the Utah legislature. Let's make this happen!

Response to Proposed MedC Compromise

The framework for MedC legislation released today looks like a step in the right direction. I'm pleased to see Utah's legislature beginning to listen to the unmistakable message Utah's citizens are sending- sick people deserve access to medicine that will help them. Whatever happens at the ballot box in November, Utah will have a MedC program.

Make no mistake, however- this wouldn't be happening at all without the tireless work of TRUCE and the overwhelming statewide support for Prop 2. I continue to support the proposition. It is a better solution than what we have now, and passing it will place appropriate pressure on Utah's legislators to heed the will of the people who elected them.

Happy National Voter Registration Day!

Today is National Voter Registration Day! Whether you’re a lifelong voter or a first-timer, you can find great information at vote.utah.gov.Make sure to check your status, update your address if needed, and prepare for midterms in six weeks!

First time voters - you can register online, and if you need help, there are great organizations like Voterise who have your back. Your vote counts!

The hearing of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is powerful, important, and devastating. Survivors of sexual assault and violence are watching as their trauma and pain is inspected on a national stage. I believe Dr. Ford, and I believe survivors. For anyone who needs it, RAINN has a National Sexual Assault Telephone Hotline you can reach at 800.656.HOPE. Please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

Could every Utah high school have a designated College Advisor?

Amazing news: The Utah State Board of Regents just voted unanimously to ask the legislature for funding to put a college access adviser in every Utah public high school. This is an important step that could have incredible implications for education access and student success.

College access advisers help students with the entire process, including connecting them to first-year experience programs on campus once they are admitted. They help counselors shoulder their enormous workloads, provide another point of contact for students, and are able to focus on the college process in order to more specifically serve applicants.

I am so excited about this news, and even more excited at the thought of working with folks in the legislature to get this initiative going. This campaign has real implications for students and families across the state -- every door you knock, every phone call you make, every dollar you donate goes toward ensuring that there is another voice for education access and school funding in the 2019 legislature. Let's do this!

UTAH FOUNDATION: Utah Foundation’s Quality of Life Index Declines Despite Strong Economy

This week, Utah Foundation released their study of Utah's Quality of Life Index. Their assessment found that Utah's Quality of Life Index is declining, despite the strong economy -- and financial security is the lowest performing factor on their Personal Quality of Life Index.

I've said this before: a supposedly "strong economy" does not always reflect the struggles of middle class and low-income workers. There should not be a trade off between a thriving economy and a healthy, happy workforce. That's why I'm committed to increasing financial security outcomes by making quality education accessible to all Utahns, and expanding the reach and resources of apprenticeship and trade school programs. Financial stability starts with opportunity, and education is the number one way to create diverse, fulfilling opportunities for all.

Endorsed by Equality Utah

I am honored to have received the endorsement of Equality Utah for House District 44. Please make sure that regardless of where you live, you check their Voter Guide to see how your candidates scored. This upcoming legislative session will be critical for LGBTQIA+ issues, particularly as they apply to our youth. As your legislator, I will be a strong advocate for positive change. https://www.equalityutah.org/resources/voter-guide

SLTRIB: Kat Martinez - "Expanded Medicaid would support Utah families"

"Proposition 3 provides access to Medicaid for more than 150,000 Utahns who are earning under $17,000 per year for individuals, or parents earning less than $34,000 per year for a family of four.

It ensures hard-working Utahns who earn a promotion or work more hours won’t have their health care taken away.

It helps Utahns onto the path of self-reliance as they pull themselves out of poverty.

Medicaid rewards hard work instead of punishing it by cutting off a family’s health care. Utah is the most family-friendly state and Medicaid supports families."

This is an excellent piece by healthcare advocate Kat Martinez, and it gets to the core of why I am so proud to support Prop 3: Utah Decides. Working people and working families deserve to live without fear of being sent into financial ruin by any minor health issue. Medicaid expansion will protect families, create jobs, and improve our economy's health. I'm voting yes, and I hope you will too.

OP-ED: To be a family values state, Utah must work to end domestic violence

As a prosecutor and longtime victim advocate, I see firsthand the impact of domestic and intimate partner violence on Utah's communities. We cannot claim to be a state of family values without addressing this issue head-on. As your legislator, I will not shy away from the epidemic of domestic violence in Utah, but will work collaboratively with colleagues in the legislature to implement solutions that keep people and families safe. https://www.sltrib.com/opinion/commentary/2018/09/11/commentary-be-family/
